Conviction or Comparison…what’s motivating you?

S – scripture

I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh Barnea to explore the land. And I brought him back a report according to my convictions, (Joshua 14:7 NIV)

O – observation

Joshua was 40 when he went into the land. Joshua had convictions going in and it was his convictions that caused him to give a certain report about the land.  The others brought back reports not according to conviction, but according to comparison.  If you compare you will always see someone or something larger than you!  There is always someone doing something bigger than YOU! But if you have convictions…your convictions will motivate you by the size and ability if your God. High capacity leaders need to be motivated no by comparison but conviction.

A – application

We fall into the comparison game all the time.  How we measure up is nothing more than testosterone driven, but if we simply hold onto our conviction, we will believe and we will see what only God can do.  Lord I know I don’t have the heritage and the experience of others…but I have YOU!  That’s more than enough!  Let’s Go!

P – prayer

Lord may you cause our convictions to increase and our tendency to compare to decrease.  May we simply be a people that operate on the same convictions of Joshua and be motivated by your presence and your ability.  May you increase in our lives each day! You are more than enough!
