He followed the ways of his father Asa and did not stray from them; he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. The high places, however, were not removed, and the people still had not set their hearts on the God of their ancestors. (2 Chronicles 20:32, 33 NIV)
O – observation
Jehoshaphat was the king. He followed the example of his father, but he did not make changes. It’s more than following an example of someone who counts – you need to be led by the spirit of God. The spirit of God would have torn down the high places. He must have been prompted to do something about it, simply because he did nothing about it.
A – application
Leadership is more than following the example of a good leader. If we simply follow the example of good leaders, we may miss the leading of the spirit of God. I need to look in the mirror and ask the spirit of The Lord to guide and lead…If I am going to lead a generation of leaders into a new place, then I have to be led by the Spirit and not just mirror a place of leadership I have been exposed to.
P – prayer
Lord…help me to be led by your spirit and not merely by the examples of great leaders. There are great models out their but mirroring where they lead is not leading where you lead. Lead me to a greater place…I am ready, willing and eager.
