S – scripture
For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. (1 John 2:16 NIV)
For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. (1 John 2:16 NLT)
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the vain glory of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. (1 John 2:16 ASV)
O – observation
The pursuit of pleasure and what we see and what we can achieve is never-ending. There is always something bigger, better and more pleasant to loom and achieve. The question is, what pleases The Lord? What we see and what we can achieve or pursuing Him.
A – application
Success and pleasure are pursued constantly by so many. May we be a people who are not merely marked by our achievements but rather marked by our pursuit and relationship with Christ. I need more of you! I am stirred up to pursue you MORE!
P – prayer
Lord help me to see beyond the numbers, beyond what others say and see, and pursue you! Give me a greater desire for your presence. Give me a greater thirst for you. There is so much MORE of You, if we would simply pursue you!
