Scripture
Some time later King Xerxes promoted Haman son of Hammedatha the Agagite over all the other nobles, making him the most powerful official in the empire. All the king’s officials would bow down before Haman to show him respect whenever he passed by, for so the king had commanded. But Mordecai refused to bow down or show him respect. (Esther 3:1-2 NLT)
Observation
Haman was promoted and everyone was instructed to bow before him and show respect. But, Mordecai refused to. The promotion can go to your head, and you can allow people to think you are something. We have the power to let promotions go to our head, or the power to stay humble and serve at every promotion. The promotion can be the downfall or it can be the position to stay humble. We choose. Hamas and his entire legacy was destroyed, because he allowed pride to take over.
Application
No matter what promotion I get in life, it is always a good idea and principle to stay humble. Serving others is always and should remain as a core value. Leaders that no longer serve and expect people to respect their position as a leader make room for pride to creep in. I do not want to be so full of myself that I do not serve with others.
Prayer
Lord, the promotions will come, help me to use every promotion as an opportunity to serve and stay humble. Pride goes before the fall and I want to stay humble and serve, the doors will open, but the power to serve and stay humble is mine. I choose to stay humble and serve those around us.
