And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night. He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night from before the people. (Exodus 13:21-22 NKJV)
The pillar of fire by night and cloud by day was so visible, there was no mistake who was leading.
The fire and cloud led them on the journey. It was the Lord hat went before them.
Too often we look for the visible sign to lead and guide the way on the journey of life, but God has not left us. The fire is still there and his presence will not leave us. Who is leading your life? Is one question, but a better one may be who are you following. God’s presence and Power are so evident when we choose to follow him. It’s moments that we choose to follow our feelings and our peers that lead us from his presence into a path that we have chosen. Life is a journey…who are you following? We want to see the fire and smoke, but why not read the word and pray and by faith walk in his presence. He will lead and guide us.
Lord…help us to be followers of Christ. It’s really simple…we pursue you and follow you, then you can lead us.
Fire…the power of pentecost. the unashamed experience with pentecost will energize a generation to wake up out of the funk and be the powerful movement they are destined to be. a lot has been said about the passionless generation we minister to. these kids are overentertained and overindulged in worldly ways, but underchallenged when it comes to the things of God. what will it take to wake them out of their slumber. the message bible says this in Proverbs 4:7″ Watching the mindless crowd stroll by,I spotted a young man without any sense” we are dealing with a generation that gives no thought to their actions or consequences. It’s time to simply preach the word…the full word and pray for the power of god to grip this generation. the success of youth ministry is not contingent on slick marketing, cool t-shirts, great programs or an amazing websight. the success of youth ministry is contingent on whether or not God stretches out His hand and touches this generation. we, now more than ever, need a touch from God on our lives so we can in turn touch this generation.
Just a few random thoughts as i get ready to preach to a group of students on the Fire of pentecost…if you are a youth minister, then stand up and preach and pray for whoever will listen and expect God’s hand to move!
